Ritterkreuz award ceremony for Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel Johann Port (Zugführer in 8.Kompanie / II.Bataillon / Infanterie-Regiment 266 / 72.Infanterie-Division), which were held on 26 August 1942. The medal was presented by Generalleutnant Philipp Müller-Gebhard (Kommandeur 72. Infanterie-Division). Port was formally received the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes a day previously, on 25 August 1942, for his actions during the offensive battles around Sebastopol in mid-June 1942. Here he managed to reenergize his Bataillon’s temporarily stalled attack on his own initiative, roll up the enemy’s trench system and then fend off all Russian counterattacks.
