Original period press picture showing Ritterkreuzträger Oberleutnant Werner Baumbach (second from left, Flugzeugführer in 5.Staffel / II.Gruppe / Kampfgeschwader 30) with his crew posing before his Junkers Ju 88 A-4 plane with the tactical symbol of Kampfgeschwader 30 "Adler". Baumbach is wearing the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes which he received on 8 May 1940 for achieving a direct hit on the French cruiser “Emile Bertin” while it was located off the Norwegian coast on the 19 April 1940 (by this time he had flown 26 sorties).
