Sepp Dietrich during the Capitulation of Greece

Greek General Georgios Tsolakoglu (sits at the table on the left) and SS-Obergruppenführer Josef "Sepp" Dietrich (stands second on the right, Kommandeur Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler) during the signing of the surrender of Greece, 21 April 1941. Georgios Tsolakoglu signed the surrender without the consent of the Greek commander in chief. With the signature he ordered the disband of the Greek Army and prevented it from being captured by the beaten Italian Army, thought there is much debate if it could withdraw and continue resisting around Thessaly region with the help of 4 British divisions. His positioning at the head of the collaborationist government is the key to judge his unauthorized decision. He served as prime minister of the Greek government from 1941 to 1942. In 1945 he was sentenced to death for treason, which was later replaced by life imprisonment. He died in a prison in Athens in 1948.
