Stuka Ace Karl Bleckl

Karl Bleckl (26 September 1919 - 26 March 2013) received the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on 3 November 1942 as Oberleutnant and Staffelführer 7.Staffel / III.Gruppe / Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 (StG 1). The medal was awarded after Bleckl flying 451 ground attack sorties. By this time he had destroyed a great deal of enemy war materiel including 48 tanks and 9 road/railway bridges. During World War II he flew a total of 950 sorties, including about 200 with the Fw 190. He finally reached the rank of Hauptmann. After the Second World War Karl Bleckl served with the Österreischisches Bundesheer and there reached the rank of Oberst.
