Bio of Oberstleutnant Erich Löffler

Major Erich Löffler (22 March 1908 - 17 March 1945) in a Tita Binz postcard. A rather unusual officer, awarded with 4 Panzervernichtungsabzeichen (Tank Destruction Badges), which means that he single-handedly destroyed an enemy tank on four different occasions! He was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on 7 October 1942 as Hauptmann and Kommandeur II.Bataillon / Infanterie-Regiment 57 / 9.Infanterie-Division. Löffler was killed during the battle of Frankfurt by a US M101 Howitzer, only a couple of days before his 37th birthday, as Kampfkommandant of Frankfurt am Main with the rank of Oberstleutnant.
