Generalmajor Gustav von Vaerst (Kommandeur 15. Panzer-Division) at Bir Hakeim, Libya, July 1942. After he was heavily wounded during the Battle of Gazala on 26 May 1942, temporary leadership of the division passed to Oberst Eduard Crasemann, commander of the division’s Artillery Regiment 33 (Motorized). Von Vaerst taken back his position as Divisionskommandeur on 8 July 1942.Source :
