Hauptmann der Reserve Johannes Kümmel posed for the camera in the day of his audience with Hitler at Führerhauptquartier Werwolf, Vinnitsa (Ukraine), October 1942. On that day, the Führer met with two new Eichenlaubträger (Eichenlaub recipients) of the Wehrmacht: Johannes Kümmel (Heer) and Walter Sigel (Luftwaffe). Kümmel received the Eichenlaub #133 on 11 October 1942 as Hauptmann d.R. and Kommandeur I.Abteilung / Panzer-Regiment 8 / 15.Panzer Division, while Sigel received the Eichenlaub #116 on 2 September 1942 as Oberstleutnant and Geschwaderkommodore Stukageschwader 3 (StG 3). In this picture, Kümmel is wearing the blue ribbon of Italian Medaglia d'Argento al Valore Militare (The Silver Medal of Military Valor) above his pocket.
