Salerno, September 1943. From left to right: Oberst i.G. Bogislaw von Bonin (Chef des Generalstabes XIV. Panzerkorps), Generalleutnant Hermann Balck (mit der Führung beauftragt XIV. Panzerkorps), and Generalmajor Rudolf Sieckenius (Kommandeur 16. Panzer-Division). Balck only briefly commanded the XIV. Panzerkorps in September and October 1943, before he was seriously injured in a plane crash.
