Unteroffizier Lambert Mitterwenger (9 June 1920 - 3 March 2005), the commander of a StuG III (Sturmgeschütz III) assault gun in 2.Kompanie / Panzerjäger-Abteilung 1548, photographed in late 1944 after he was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Crosses) in 18 December 1944 for destroying 8 Soviet tanks within a short time in Lithuania, thus playing a pivotal role in stopping a Soviet attack. His last rank was Feldwebel
