Heinz von Brese-Winiary and Karl Lorenz

At the end of August 1944, an advance of Panzergrenadier-Division "Grossdeutschland" northwards towards Tukkum and Mitau was made in order to maintain contact with the fellow German units fighting in Courland. The attack stopped in front of Doblen. This picture shows Divisionsführer Oberst Karl Lorenz (right) with Oberst Heinz Wittchow von Brese-Winiary (Kommandeur Panzer-Füsilier-Regiment "Grossdeutschland").
