Brillantenträger Major Hermann Graf among young glider pilots at a visit to his home town Engen. The picture was taken by Hanns Tschira and first published by 'Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung' 45/1942.After receiving the Brillanten from Hitler and elevated to hero status by the Luftwaffe, he was promoted to Major on 29 September 1942 and forbidden from flying further combat missions. For the next few months, after home leave, Graf was sent on propaganda tours across Germany. He was also able to meet the Germany national football team and went to several of their international matches.
