Georg Pahl and it shows the funeral procession, first row from left to
right: unknown, Admiral Ludwig von Schröder, Prinz August-Wilhelm von
Preussen, Admiral Erich Raeder (Chef der Marineleitung), and unknown
Heer officer
In
1928, Admiral Reinhard Scheer accepted an invitation to meet his
adversary from the time of the Battle of Jutland (1916), Admiral of the
Fleet Jellicoe, in England. However, at the age of 65, Scheer died at
Marktredwitz on 26 November 1928 before he could make the trip. He was
buried in the municipal cemetery at Weimar four days later. His
tombstone reads: "hier ruht admiral reinhard scheer [Here rests Admiral
Reinhard Scheer] — with the dates of his life, his flag in metal
applique and the single word "skagerrak" (the German name for the Battle
of Jutland).
