Ritterkreuz Award Ceremony for Johann Bäuchl

Ritterkreuz award ceremony for Oberfeldwebel Johann Bäuchl (Zugführer in 5.Kompanie / II.Bataillon / Panzergrenadier-Regiment 33 / 4.Panzer-Division), which took place on 23 October 1944. The medal was awarded for distinguishing himself during his Bataillon’s offensive combat on 16 September 1944. He received the Ritterkreuz from the Divisionskommandeur Generalmajor Clemens Betzel, which also temporarily in charge of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 33, . On the same day, Bäuchl - after the war changed his name to Johann Baichl - was also awarded the Nahkampfspange in Gold (Close Combat Clasp in Gold) for an astonishing feat: surviving 50 days of close combat!
