This picture was taken by Kriegsberichter Luken and it shows Generalleutnant Wolfgang Fischer (in the middle, Kommandeur 10. Panzer-Division) discussing the situation with his officers during the Tunisian campaign, January 1943. He is wearing the Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz which he received on 9 December 1942 previously. Only one month after this picture was taken, General Fischer was killed near Mareth in Tunisia when his staff car drove into a poorly marked Italian minefield and hit a land mine. He lost his left arm and both of his legs in the blast. He bled to death while writing a farewell letter to his wife. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of General der Panzertruppe.
