20 July 1940 in Reichskanzlei: Adolf Hitler (Führer und Oberste Befehlshaber der Wehrmacht) posed with General der Gebirgstruppe Eduard Dietl (Kommandierender General Gebirgskorps "Norwegen"), who wears here the just awarded Eichenlaub (Oak Leaves) to the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (Knight's Cross of the Iron Crosses). After the successful end of the battle on the Norwegian Narvik, he was the first soldier of the Wehrmacht who received this award, one day previously (19 July 1940). On that day, Dietl also got promoted from Generalleutnant to General der Infanterie / General der Gebirgstruppe. The picture was taken by photographer from Presse-Illustrationen Heinrich Hoffmann, and first Published in 'Berliner Morgenpost' (21 July 1940 edition).
